well, toma's dramas usually don't get very high ratings. except if there are other popular actresses/actors in the cast. =T so first episode was 13.5%. second was 9.9%, according to memo, i think. oh well, i don't really care about the ratings.

Fuji TV premiered a new drama on Tuesday as well. ‘Osozaki no Himawari‘, starring Ikuta Toma and a nice ensemble of young actors, tried to appeal to the viewers. Somehow Ikuta has never managed to develop into someone who attracts a lot of viewers, although he already successfully mastered some difficult roles in his recent past. ‘Osozaki no Himawari’ only premiered with a mediocre 13.5%, which makes it difficult to forecast its coming episodes as proven by ‘Going My Home‘ (Fuji TV). The latter finally returned with its second episode that day, but dropped from 13.0% down to 8.9% (minus 4.1%). It looks like the first episode really had been a bit too tedious for the average drama viewer in Japan, even with Abe Hiroshi in the lead.

On Sunday, the fifth baseball match between the Giants and Chunichi on NTV meant a lot of suspense and consequently a lot of viewers. Not even the variety special of ‘Hoko x Tate‘ was able to beat its ratings. It affected the whole prime and night time with ‘Taira no Kiyomori‘ (NHK) almost breaking its own record for the worst taiga rating ever and the new drama, ‘MONSTERS‘ (TBS), starting may be a bit below people’s expectations.
Katori Shingo and Yamashita Tomohisa still managed to attract 13.8% with the two-hour long episode, which isn’t exactly a bad result. Katori especially delivers with his overdrawn performance, which makes you almost forget that this drama actually has two leads. He is not only acting his part but Yamashita’s as well, while the latter is just observing from the sidelines. Yamashita has never been the most versatile actor in the first place, but putting him next to someone like Katori just makes him look even worse. Of course that’s also the fault of character drawing, but why is he always picking the same kind of roles?
